Boys will be Boyz!

Well, so much for a different week.  A pair of storms blew through this afternoon.  One names Walnut and the other named Almond.  I am working on painting their room while the Peanut is at camp.  I left most of my painting supplies on the counter last night, and this is what I came home too….

That would be spackle.  Wall patching spackle.  My poor wife, she was in tears.  I didn’t really seem to worried about it.  But then I am not 6 months pregnant either.  Anyway, it is mostly cleaned up.  The floor at least.  It will be awhile before it all get taken care of, but it should just wash away as long as it doesn’t get painted.  I am not too worried about it.  Sorry dear, I though it was pretty funny, but I know it was a really hard day for you.

Haircut

For those that don’t know, the kid-lets spend the day at Grandma’s farm, which is next door.  It is probably not the safest place in the world, it is a working dairy farm, but the price is right.  About half the time, Grandma also watches another granddaughter, who is four.  The Walnut loves to play with her. They have a great time playing, and play hard ALL DAY.  So much so, that when he gets home, the Walnut usually falls asleep around 5:30 pm and sleep through the night.

Well, yesterday they apparently were playing a game of barber shop and decided that the Almonds hair was TOO LONG.  Now, the Almond is 19 months old, and his hair was at most 2 inches long in most places.  Now, it is about 2 inches long on the sides and back, but about .2 inches long on the top!  He has a reverse mullet!  I am sure that tonight we will be getting out the clippers to make the rest of his head match, but for now, it’s pretty funny.

I really don’t know how to feel about what happened.  On one hand, I am upset that a 3 and 4 year old where able to completely cut the hair of a 19 month old. But, they are kids and these things happen.  Of course, I am sure that my nieces parents would have been a little more upset had it been HER long locks that were trimmed.  But they weren’t, so we should be happy about that.

Today is my day to drop the kids off, so I will make sure to take away any scissors I see lying about.  It only makes sense.  Today it maybe scissors, but tomorrow, they could find a cattle prod lying around, and then they would all have curly hair!

Over Sleepin’

Yesterday, I overslept.  Yep, me who wakes up before the alarm.  It must have something to do with having 3 sick kids who keep getting up in the night!  But oversleeping wasn’t my fault!  You see, I set my alarm clock to go off at the correct time, it’s just that my alarm clock isn’t kid-proof.  At somepoint on Monday, my clock was unplugged, or reset or something.  When I reset it, right before bed, I set it for 9 something - AM, not PM!  So the next morning, when the clock thought it was 5 PM, the alarm didn’t go off.  I really need to get an alarm clock that they can’t mess up!

So today, I woke up at 4:30, well before my alarm was to go off, and couldn’t get back to sleep.  I guess I am just paranoid about oversleeping again.  I probably won’t have to set the think for another month!

The Phantom of the Basement!

My children, like so many others, have been blessed with Fisher-Price toys that make noise.  There is nothing good about these toys.  They don’t teach them anything, well anything good. The toys are great at teaching the children how to annoy Mom and Dad all day long.  They teach them at a young age how to ‘push my buttons’ until my face turns red and I blow up like a trick cigar.

But I digress, this is not what this post is about.  The toys are possessed.  Not in the classical sense, they have battery possession!   For those who have not been blessed with this phenomenon, let me explain.   When the batteries start to run low on juice, the toys SEEK attention.  Just to let you know they are about to die, so hopefully you will replace the batteries.  That’s right, they make their sounds WITHOUT ANYONE PRESSING THE STUPID BUTTON!  It is a little freaky, sitting in my basement minding my own business,  and out of the blue: “I hear an alarm! Let’s go to the fire!” - (Fisher-Price firetruck), or “Looks like it’s time to power down for the night.” - (John Deere Johnny Tractor).  The toy is sitting in a box, with other toys.  No one pressed the button.  Sometimes a different toy answers! “Looks like it’s time to power down for the night.”, - “The wagons full, time to head to the barn!” Freaks me out! I suppose that I could just walk over and turn off the offending toy, but another would just start up then. I will only get concerned when I start to answer them; “Yes Johnny, it IS time to power down!  HAHAHAHA”

My Sick (and tired) Kids

Last night was a great night.  We started a new 13 week group-course on financial stuff.  We are doing Dave Ramseys Financial Peace University.  It looks really exciting, and now that I actually have a job I need all the help I can get to not spend money like it’s unlimited in supply.  But enough about that.  Follow the link if you want more information.

We meet at the home of our youth pastor from Journey North Church.  They arrainged childcare and everything and it wall all going great!  Then came the phrase that all parents dread hearing when they are at someone elses house and their kids are playing on white carpet.  “You son threw up!”.  I am pretty glad that we had given him some type of RED juice earlier in the day!!!  I thought to myself, “Hmm..this must be financial peace, because a piece of my finances will be going to replace the white carpet in their basement!”.  But they were really understanding, and told us not to worry, they have teenagers over all the time who spill.  Thanks for being so understanding Rosalie.

My fun did not end there though.  I am sure you all can tell where this is going now.  On the way home, BOTH boys threw up in the van.  Ok, actually they threw up all over INSIDE the van.  I was not with them at the time.  My wife was driving right behind me when I noticed that she was trying to go ALOT faster than I was.  I pretty much knew at that point what had happened.

We finally got everything cleaned up and to bed about 10:30.  Everyone slept through the night ok, so hopefully this is just a 24-hr deal. Well, gotta get to work before they wake up!

What, you want to know about the Peanut?  She wasn’t feeling well either, so she didn’t go with us.  She stayed at Grandma’s last night.  Which is probably better for all concerned.
