Having a ‘swell’ time now!

The Peanut and I went camping last weekend. It was pretty much a last minute trip, planned in the week before we went.  We ended up at Tettegouche State Park, on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior.  It was great.  The campground there is wonderful.  I would recommend it to anyone.  On Saturday, we took a really nice hike along the Hiking Club trail, and say some amazing views of the lake.  Towards the end of our hike, it started to drizzle, and we headed back to camp for lunch, and it started to rain a bit harder.  So we left the park and drove up the shore.  My plan was to check out Grand Marais, and be back in time for the Geo-Caching hike at the park.

Along the way, we stopped at Cascade River to hike up to the falls.  We got up there, and I fell.  Hard. I twisted my ankle pretty good.  After hobbling about 1/2 mile back to the car, we went to Grand Marais, and the emergency room.  No broken bones, just a really bad sprain.  I was told the swelling would go down in a few days and I should stay off if, use ice, etc.  Well, It is now Wednesday night, and I think that it is more swollen than before, plus I have lots of neat colors on my foot.  Apparently I had the air-brace on too tight, and my toes all turned purple!  Ugh!  I have also learned that I hate crutches.  Hopefully this will start feeling better soon.  It still hurts like a son of a gun, and I dare not put weight on my foot.  Life is really slow going.

The plus side is that I was able to spend some really good time around the campfire with the Peanut Saturday night and Sunday morning.  We just relaxed, read books and hung out.  It was perfect!  She even learned some neat camping stuff, and I know that in the future, she will be a great camping companion. Thanks for the weekend Peanut, even if it didn’t turn out how you would have liked.

  1. A bad sprain can turn your foot many different colors. I have sprained rather badly my left ankle numerous times and love to watch the colors turn. Crutches, huh, they only gave me a cane the last time I sprained my ankle. Hope you are up and about soon.
