Movie Review

Now, before you get all uppity, I hate movie reviews.  Those people take reviews WAY to serious.  I look to movies at entertainment, not a comment on the social, economic events of the day.  With that out of the way…

My wife and I had a date last night.  Got a sitter, and went to see a movie.  We say the new Indiana Jones movie.  This is a big thing for me.  I am one that doesn’t think that any movie is actually ‘worth’ the price of a ticket at the theater these days.  This movie isn’t really any exception.  But you see, I NEED to see this movie in the theater.  Why? Because I saw the other three in the theater!  Any it just wouldn’t be the same to not see this one there. It was the same way with the Star Wars movies.

But, I liked the new Jones movie.  It has all the classic Jones elements, so that was good.  Nothing new, nothing re-made to make it more appealing to ‘newer’ viewers to the Jones movies.  So I liked it.  It was just what I expected it to be, entertaining.  So, if you want to see an entertaining movie, this one is for you.

End of my review. Onto the movies in general.  After the movie, my wife and I were trying to remember the last movie we saw in the theater.  We couldn’t.  How sad is that?!  I am pretty sure I saw something last year with the Peanut.  After getting over the initial sticker shock and seeing the movie, I can’t remember what it was we saw. How is that for a lasting impression!  I can remember many movies from the childhood. Star War, Empire, Jedi, Indiana Jones, Splash, etc.  I could go on it I thought about it.  I remember taking the Peanut to some movies she didn’t like (Finding Nemo) and those that she did (Clifford), but I don’t remember what we saw last time.  I am sure it was something rated ‘G’. Let me know if you think of anything released in the past 2 years we could have seen.

Hope you are all having a great spring!

Something in the Air

There is something strange here.  It is warm, and it’s morning.  I guess it was inevitable.  Spring was bound to come.  I just wish it hadn’t waited until it was nearly summer to visit.  But that’s Minnesota, right?

Enough about the weather. It’s Memorial Day weekend.  You know what that mean, right?  Time to BBQ? Shop? Go Camping, fishing, hiking?  NO!

Well, I mean you could do those things, but please take time on Monday to pay your respects to those who lost their lives for your freedom.  It’s the least we can do.  Say a prayer for them, and for all the men and women currently serving, for you.

As for me this weekend, I am going to plant.  I need to plant my garden.  Nothing big this year.  I don’t have the time like in the past few years.  Just corn, beans, maybe some peas for the kids.  They won’t eat frozen peas, only the ones fresh from the garden.  Raw.  They don’t want them cooked. July is great.  If the kids are hungry, they just go outside and pick some peas and eat them.

I used to have a HUGE garden.  Two in fact.  I would make just about everything imaginable.  Salsa, ketchup, pickles, relish, frozen beans, corn, peas.  We canned tomatoes, made tomato sauce, applesauce. Froze pies, bread, etc. We usually filled two upright freezers each autumn with goodies.  Not this year. I will still fill two freezers, but it will mostly be with beans.  If I have learned one thing over the past few years, it’s that we really only eat the frozen beans.  Everything else sits out there, taking up valuable ‘bean’ space!  So this year, it’s 8 rows of beans!  That should do it. I just need to remember not to plant them ALL at the same time.  Stagger it a little bit!

Have a great weekend.

Look! There is something in the Sky!

It’s big and bright, orb-like in nature!  Could it be….the sun??

Of course.  The sun has finally returned, and brought semi-warm weather with it.  We are still well below average, and the mornings are still COLD. It is May 22, and it’s only 42 degrees this morning.  I guess it’s another day or wearing the snowpants on the ride into work!

On the bright side, it should warm up to about 67 for the ride home, so that will be great!  I just wish it could be 67 in the morning, and somehwere in the 80’s on the way home.  Then I could wear my ‘cool’ leather jacket while riding and not my bright red snow jacket!

Of course, I guess the red jacket is good.  It makes it easier for people to see me, which is good.  But it also is quite WARM in the afternoon.  Oh well.  I guess I can’t be happy ALL the time, eh.  I should be grateful that I have a great wife who lets me ride the bike to work each day.  She’s only in it for the money though.  If I had a car that got 50 mpg, she would make me drive that.  But I don’t, so it on the bike I go.

Speaking of going, I gotta go now! Off to work!

Honey Do….

I tried to post this the other day, but it didn’t work, so here it is!

This weekend was my Honey Do weekend.  Or should I say, the start of the Honey Do season.  I got the lawn mower working and mowed the lawn, fixed the clothes line, washed the bike, took the recycling to town, picked up the freeway (ok, that one was with the church, not on the list).  I could go on, there were many other things.  At least it was a nice weekend.  Unlike this morning.  I am looking forward to riding 42 miles to work on a motorcycle when it is 34 degrees out!  It isn’t supposed (40% chance) to rain until this afternoon, so we will pray that holds off.

I am not sure what it is about the Honey Do list.  It is a list that I work on so MY ‘Honey’ can DO whatever she wants?  Or a list the I (the ‘Honey’) do because she asks me to and I can’t resist her charms?  Either way, it (the list) always seems to be in the way of me actually getting to DO what I want to do.  Such as, hmm….I can’t really think of anything right now.  But I will, just at she hands me the list I think of all sorts of other things I would rather be doing!

Oh well, have a great week.  The Almond seemed to be feeling better last night.  He slept all night, no waking up screaming in pain!  That was a blessing.  Hopefully we are past the worst and on the mend!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Well, it’s been one(1) week and riding the MC to work has been good.  Cold, but good.  I spent about $31 on gas last week.  That may seem like a lot, for those that can ride the bus, but I don’t have a bus to ride.  I also need to go about 85 miles a day (42 1/2 miles each way!)  It’s been fun, and I have been pretty lucky about the weather, until today.

The ride in was great.  A little warmer than it has been, and the wind from the south, so it was at my back most of the way.  It was great.  But, I knew it wouldn’t last.  It was going to rain.  70% chance or something silly like that.  So I was resigned that I would finally get to try out the rain gear!  It started to rain about noon at work, and after that, everyone I saw asked me about rain gear.  I am the only one who ride a MC to work right now, so everyone knows it.

Lucky for me, I had lots of work to do and keep me busy, so I just stayed about an hour later than normal, and what do you know, the rain was done!  Ahh…it was still a bit chilly, and the road was wet, but it wasn’t raining.  So I guess my lesson is to always have enough work to outlast the rain!

It is supposed to be nice the rest of the week, so I am looking forward to that.  Note:  Nice being ‘not raining’.  It still won’t be that warm.  Only about low to mid 40’s in the morning and high 50’s to low 60’s in the afternoon.  With no rain though, that will be nice.
