Cucumbers, Zucchini, Beans….OH MY!!!

I cannot believe how FAST these things grow.  I have already made 34 quarts of pickles and I have 10 gallons of cucumbers that I just picked outside.  I am not even going to do anything with the zucchini, I hate them.  I only grow them for my wife, who eats them for the first 4 days they are ripe, then ignores them to become baseball bats.  I really like the beans, but I wish they could space out the growing season.  No matter what, I feel so blessed to have a garden and a bountiful harvest.  I haven’t had to buy vegetables for 3 years!!  It’s great to have fresh frozen green beans in December.

With the heat we have been having, (90 degrees AGAIN today) I am happy to have anything growing.  Time for a little water.  The grass is dead in my yard, but the garden is green. Enough about the garden!  I will be cursing it later tonight while I am making pickles and relish, I can tell already.

I Hate Math

We are doing math.  She “hates” math.  Actually, she hates addition and subtraction.  Ok, only when the numbers add up to a total of more than 10.  She is quite capable of doing the problems. She just does not like busy work.  She will do anything to get out of work that she has to do alone, especially if I am doing anything other then paying attention to her.  Ahh…such is the life.  But, I have something on her.  She really LIKES science.  Ok, she likes to do science experiments, hands on stuff.  We have a good science project today to work on, so hopefully that will be enough incentive.  If not, then fresh bread in about an hour will be.  Did I mention how much she likes to cook???

Hello world!

Well, this is my FIRST post on my new blog.  I don’t really know what to expect from this experience, but hopefully I can share some of my insight from my experiences as a stay at home dad.  With three kids under the age of 7, if I don’t have experience, at least I have experiences!

A little about me.  I am in my mid thirties.  I have been married to the most wonderful Pogerina for 11 1/2 years.  We have a daughter, Peanut (7), and two sons, the Walnut (3) and the Almond (1).  So I guess we are all just nuts.

I have been a stay at home dad for almost 3 years.  I keep telling myself I could find a job, but in reality I have the best job.  I also homeschool our daughter going on year 3.

Today was a great day.  The Peanut and Walnut went swimming with cousins most of the day and the Almond took TWO great naps.  So I was actually able to get stuff done.  My stuff.  So it was a good day.

That’s all for now, I hear the naval battles in the bathtub going and need to get the armistice underway.
